At the end of 1975, construction work was carried out to set up the space of the underground access ramp and part of the garage as a shopping centre: Mercadillo (flea market) or Pedrera Market. These are the two names of this establishment that alternate in the documents of the Barcelona City Council archives. Based on our findings, there were initially a number of permit problems. However, once in compliance with regulations, the La Pedrera shopping centre would ultimately open its doors on 1 December 1976. The centre had fifty shops, including leather goods, a cosmetics shop, a record store, souvenirs, a bookshop, and a gardening supplies shop, among others. The unpublished images —by an unknown photographer and on file at the Historical Archive of the Professional Association of Architects’ of Catalonia — display the entrance signs and the neon light sign located inside, at the ramp access. Nevertheless, we have no interior images or evidence of some of the shops. This shopping centre was operative until 1978. Can you help us complete its history?
